Yeti Hopper 20

Overall Rating

The Yeti Hopper was built for those adventures where you want to grab your gear and go. It is the original 100% leakproof portable refrigerator, ice for days. Speaking exclusively in terms of design and construction, the Yeti Hopper Two 20 is practically a tiny sibling of the Hopper 30. It is smaller, but with a design and construction very similar to the other.

The exteriors are covered in the same impressive and virtually indestructible DryHide shell. Made of high-quality, high-density fabric, this shell is built to last for several years. The good news is that this doesn’t make a selection of shape over the function, or vice versa. The DryHide shell looks good.

It has an excellent finish and its excellent appearance says a lot about the overall design of the cooler. The inner lining of the refrigerator is made from FDA-approved food-grade materials. Therefore, there is nothing to worry about if you choose to carry food in this refrigerator.

The presence of a single pocket can pose some challenges in transporting food. Since the food will share space with ice, anything that can get soaked will get soaked. A good way to fix that problem is to use something like Yeti Ice.

The frozen material in its own bag will not emit moisture and will not affect your food. Furthermore, it is an expensive option compared to the use of regular ice. Beyond its appearance, the high-density fabric of the case is puncture and leak-proof. You really should try to damage this fabric. Unless there is some major impact or misuse, this fabric will not give up.

Of course, it’s not just the outdoors that are responsible for the life of the refrigerator. The interiors have to be just as useful. It uses the same Coldwell insulation with closed-cell rubber foam. The welded seams and the HydroLok zipper have the same appearance and characteristics as those of the Yeti Hopper 30.

YETI Hopper Two 20 Size

Really cool cooler put it up for sale on Prime Day, which reduced the bite a bit. This is a very well-built cooler and looks good. It does what it is supposed to do. I mention this, because this 20 hopper model is currently discontinued, and I am glad to have found a new and authentic part with all its documentation here.

Yeti Hopper Two 20 has a capacity of 20 litres. That’s an acceptable volume, and it will give you enough room to work with ice and the things you want to chill. While this is noticeably smaller than the Hopper 30, it is not without features. The performance is the same for both coolers and in fact, Hopper 20 will keep drinks cold for 3-4 days.

The dry weight of this cold refrigerator is 4 lbs. That’s an acceptably low number for a refrigerator of this size. Since the soft-sided cooler is easy to transport, the total weight of a complete cooler is much easier to handle compared to conventional box coolers.

Yeti Hopper 20 gets some good features from its smaller size, but that size is also a tradeoff. With ice packed in the refrigerator at the conventional 2-to-1 ratio, there’s a remarkably small space for the things you really want to transport.

The usable space is not small, but compared to the Hopper 30, the available space on the Hopper 20 seems somewhat inadequate.

Our Verdict

It is difficult not to appreciate the quality, especially when accessibility increases. There is a large zipper that runs through the top of the refrigerator.

Pros

  • Excellent construction
  • Durable and capable of lasting several years.
  • Zipper forward for easy access.
  • Waterproof, leakproof, and resistant to UV rays and mold.

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Relatively small usable space

Yeti Hopper 30

Overall Rating

The Yeti Hopper 30 was built for those adventures where you just want to grab your gear and go. It is a 100% leak-proof original portable cooler, ice for days. Yeti Hopper 30 could very well have been an unassuming clutch. This second-generation refrigerator from the Hopper line is an impressive sample of what made this refrigerator famous.

Being a soft-sided cooler it is easier to handle compared to traditional block coolers. The overall shape and material also help with easy portability. If it can be transported like a normal bag, it is much easier to handle than a cooler.

  • Easy to transport: As I said before, I have the 45, which is the largest refrigerator that a person could realistically carry.
  • MOLLE Straps: I haven’t had a reason to use them yet, but MOLLE connections are a nice touch.

I have the Hopper 30, which is ideal for long trips and saves space compared to large bulky coolers.

Going straight to the point, the Yeti Hopper Two 30 has welded seams, a HydroLok zipper, and Coldwell insulation. The combination of these three keeps the refrigerator well insulated and makes incredible cooling possible.

The exterior of the refrigerator is made from Yeti’s DryHide casing. This is a high-density fabric that is super tough. It is also incredibly useful. Being waterproof is a walk in the park for this fabric; it is also resistant to UV rays, mould, and punctures. Yes, that skin is so difficult that you would have to try to pierce it on purpose before getting anywhere.

The Hopper 30 weighs a pound more than the Hopper 20. The Hopper 30 has a total weight of 5.5 pounds, while the Hopper 20 has a total weight of 4.4 pounds. Other notable features when it comes to appearance are the grips on the sides of the refrigerator. There is also a large strap that makes it easier to carry and move the refrigerator like a bag.

The Hopper 30 is larger overall than the Hopper 20. In terms of exterior dimensions, the 30 is 1.5 inches longer than the 20.

YETI Hopper Two 30 Space

Clearly, this is a refrigerator designed to last. Unless overused, the second generation Yeti Hopper 30 can last for years. It’s probably not a family heirloom, but if it could be, it would be a highly sought-after one! The number at the end of the refrigerator’s name is a representation of the refrigerator’s capacity. The Yeti 20 is designed to hold 20 pounds of crushed ice, while the 30 is designed to hold 30 pounds of crushed ice.

Yeti Hopper coolers tend to have an ice retention period of 24 to 72 hours. Depending on the circumstances, they may hold ice longer. Its ice retention is unusually impressive.

Our Verdict

The coolers are designed to be virtually indestructible, with rock-solid construction.

Pros

  • Robust and sturdy construction that can last for years.
  • excellent insulation
  • Leakproof, waterproof, UV, and mildew resistant.
  • Easier access through a larger zipper
  • The tapered shape and soft side facilitate movement.

Cons

  • Expensive

Final Words

The Yeti Hopper 20 vs. 30 showdown is a battle of consumer preference. In terms of features and quality, these two coolers are virtually indistinguishable. However, in terms of clear usability, my vote goes for the Yeti Hopper Two 30. Its larger overall volume is an advantage when it comes to coolers, and this increased capacity is just what puts it out front. In terms of absolute size, both are still classified as small coolers. I would choose the one with the highest volume!
